Civic Center Construction

Work Starts 5/16

PARKING LOT EXPANSION AND FIELD IMPROVEMENTS
WORK STARTS MAY 16

Beginning May 16th construction will begin at the Civic Center.  This project is part of a multi-phase effort to upgrade that community park.

Only Phase I has been approved.  It will include:
- expanding the parking lot by the Civic Center all the way to the road that leads to the Northampton Tennis Club.
- expanding the parking lot behind the CC190 batting cages
- improving field drainage
- rebuilding (and slightly relocating) the baseball field next to the Snack Shack.

There are sure to be inconveniences while the work is being done.  Please be aware of the accompanying hazards (less parking, more congestion, heavy equipment, etc.) that come with this type of endeavor.

The hope is that work will be completed by the end of the calendar year.

Additional improvements to the rest of the facility are under consideration but not yet approved.  One of the top priorities is improving the traffic flow in and out of the Civic Center on to Newtown Richboro Road.

We are proud that the Township is enhancing our community experience by investing our recreational facilities to make them safer and more attractive to all.

Inaugural Cullen Keffer Lacrosse Festival

On Saturday June 6, 2015, beginning at 12:30 pm, the Council Rock lacrosse community will be hosting the inaugural Cullen Keffer Lacrosse Festival. Cullen was a freshman member of the Council Rock South lacrosse team in 2013-14.  Sadly, Cullen perished in an automobile accident August 30, 2014. A scholarship has been established at his high school in his honor for senior men’s lacrosse players who plan to attend college. The festival on June 6 will raise funds for the scholarship, which will be awarded for the first time in the spring of 2015.

According to Cullen’s father, Joe Keffer, “The recipient of the scholarship shall be a player of remarkable character, both on and off the field, as Cullen was, and we believe that the festival will be an excellent way to honor his character.”

The day will begin with youth clinics at 1:30. All skill levels are welcome and accommodations for absolute beginners will be made. Following the youth clinics, players from the Council Rock lacrosse community will put on three exhibition games. The Rising Stars game will be first and will begin at 4:00. That game will be followed by the Senior Stars game. The premier game of the day will feature alumni from Council Rock North and Council Rock South facing off under the lights, with the winning team receiving the Cullen Cup to be placed in their school’s trophy case for the year.

Concession stands, t-shirt sales, celebrities, live music and a trophy presentation will all be part of the fun. Donations will be appreciated.

Cullen was a young man who made friends wherever he went.  He played on many lacrosse teams in just a few short years, and found camaraderie and friendship on every team. He played with the young men of Council Rock South and Council Rock North more than any others, and it’s those players and coaches with whom he so ardently connected. This tournament shall celebrate those bonds in the spirit of good sportsmanship and excellent skill, qualities with which Cullen shined.

“Cullen was a player who strived for excellence and made all his teammates better.  He was the most coachable player I ever coached and it was a joy to see him develop into a blue chip player in Bucks County.  It will be an honor for me to coach in this game to remember the joys Cullen gave me each day,” said Cullen’s former coach, Rob Gartner.

See attached flyer for more information.

Shack Duties - Teams

For the 2015 season we are starting a new program to help share the supervision of the Snack Shack among all teams, rather than depending on 1 person to carry the load every night.  For T-Ball teams, that means your team is being assigned one shift this season - your scheduled date is listed below.

This is not meant to be an additional duty of the manager - you are welcome to be the supervisor for your shift, but we encourage you to recruit a parent (or even assign all parents on your team to fill that role if your team is playing a game) so it doesn't just become something else for you to do this season.

The supervisor is NOT expected to spend the shift in the shack cooking hot dogs - we have kids who are filling that role during the shift.  The supervisor needs to be support for those kids so that if there are any issues they have someone to go to in an emergency and can provide an extra set of eyes to make sure the kids are working / not being harassed at the window.  There will also be a board member assigned to each evening.

Expectations are:
-Introduce yourself to the shack employees at the beginning of the shift and ensure someone has arrived to work / the shack is open
-Provide your name, phone number and field location on the white board located inside the shack - this should be the only time you need to go behind the counter unless there is an emergency
-Between innings keep an eye on the situation at the shack if possible from your location - not needed at all times, but periodically during the shift
-After your game identify yourself to the staff again and stay outside the shack to ensure a board member has arrived to help close out the shift (if a closing shift).  Monitor the situation in the parking lot / picnic bench area and inform staff when you are leaving if not a closing shift.
-Ensure all shack employees are picked up and the building is locked (if a closing shift)

When possible we have scheduled teams to supervise when they were already supposed to be at the fields.  In the event that your team's shift does not coincide with a game, it is a great time to schedule a practice - remember you do not need to spend the day / evening in the shack, just provide somewhere for the staff to go if they need help.

We need more volunteers in order to provide this safe amenity for our league and the shack adds to the baseball experience for the players and fans alike.  Thanks in advance for your help and support of this new program!  If you have any questions, please direct them to John Lindros - jlindros@crhll.com or 215.595.3803

Shack Duties - Board Members

BOARD SHACK DUTIES & SCHEDULE

I'm sure you are all excited to see what nights you have drawn to be the board member on duty at the shack.  Please see below.  Quick note:  I have tried to schedule you on an evening you would have already been there whenever possible (impossible for a few of you).  Everyone has at least 2 shifts this season, some have more because you were going to be there anyway and no one else was.  If your night gets rained out, it disappears.

There are a few nights that aren't scheduled - as rainouts occur I'm sure those dates will be scheduled.  I'll again try to give those evenings to someone that was already going to be there when they are scheduled.

Responsibilities:
-Be around the facilities that evening
-Give your contact info / location to the shack staff
-Periodically monitor that everything seems safe (if you are coaching a game you will probably need to have someone else doing this for you)
-As the games are ending make sure everything is going smoothly

When things wind down make sure the kids complete the checklist
-Count cash, verify with shack staff, place deposit in the top safe, secure the starting bank in bottom safe
-Make sure the building is locked, staff is picked up

That's it.  Thanks for your help in advance.  Schedule is below.

Batting Helmets - IMPORTANT!!

Parents, do not go out and buy a helmet similar to the one shown in this picture.  Little League has updated their 2015 rules stating “Helmets must have a non-glare surface and cannot be mirror-like in nature”.

Umpires will be instructed to remove from play any helmets that do not comply with Little League rules.

What's New in 2015???

There is so much new information to prepare for in the 2015 season, you can find it below, or download this article as a PDF here.

News for the 2015 season
Updated 12/23/2014

AGE CHANGES
Little League, as an organization, recently announced that by the 2018 season the date range for all players will change to the calendar year (from the current May 1-April 30).

From Little League International: “The original purpose of the new age determination date was to align Little League with the International Baseball Federation.  As baseball works to be reinstated into the Olympics, aligning our efforts with the International Baseball Federation positions Little League for growth internationally and assists with baseballs efforts to become a global game.”

In an effort to minimize the impact, guidelines have been issued to transition the children for this switch.  Those that are younger (9 and below) will be impacted this upcoming season.

What does that mean for me as a player this upcoming spring season?

  • If your child who was born prior April 30, 2005 then there will be no impact.  The old date ranges will still be in effect.

Clarification: If your child played in as a 9 year old last season (AAA league) or older, then he/she will advance to the next traditional age group.

  • If your child was born in 2006 or later, than his/her age and league placement will be based upon their age of their birthdate in the 2015 calendar year.

Clarification: This means that the mix of kids within each league at age 9 and below will change slightly.

  • If you child was born from May 1, 2005 – December 31, 2005 and played AA as an older 8 year old last year, you will be considered as a “Low 10” in our program for 2015.

Clarification: “Low 10” children will play in a new, very popular “Continental League” which Northampton is bringing back by public demand, after a one-year hiatus.

Please see the age chart for the upcoming season to determine where you child fits.

Please Note:  Suburban Travel has not changed its date ranges (May 1-April 30) for this upcoming season.  Exact age groups are listed later in this document.

Please always refer to our website for the latest information and updates.

INTERLEAGUE PLAY
As a result of the age changes and declining enrollments we will have less teams.  We are going to be playing interleague with Northampton all year around, at all age groups (T-Ball and up).  Games will be played at a Holland or Northampton field.  We will be playing as if we are all one big league.  For the age groups that have championships, there will be only one winner – either a Holland team or a Northampton team, not one at each Little League.

LEAGUES/TEAM CHANGES
National League: We will be reducing the National League down to 3 teams.  The Phillies and Dodgers will be combined into the Dodgers (Manager is Brendan Malone).  We will also have the Pirates (Manager is Skip Reichert) and the Giants (Manager is Max Twer).  NEW: The National League will be made up of only 11 and 12 year olds.  NL players must sign a commitment letter in order to play.  More information is included later in this document. We are discussing the possibility of having 11 & 12 year old American League players able to be called up by either Holland or Northampton.

American League: Depending on the number of registrations, we plan to reduce this league down to 3 teams, but not likely more than 4 which is down from last year’s 5 teams.  The Yankees will no longer be a team in the AL.

Continental League: New this year is the Continental League.  This league is less competitive than the American League.

All of the other leagues are further explained later in this document.

COMMITMENT FORMS
New for this year is a requirement to sign a commitment form for both the National League and for any travel teams (8 and up).  If you register for either of these programs, you will have to turn in a signed commitment form at the tryouts.  Any returning NL players must also sign and return the appropriate form.
